Socorro Yañez, Principal
Dear John Newbery Families,
October is here! The leaves are changing, the weather is cooling down, and there is a lot happening at John Newbery. We are off to a strong start, and we appreciate the support and partnership our families provide each day.
Attendance Matters
There is a lot happening at John Newbery every day, and we want our students to be here for it! From learning and classroom activities to recess, special events, and time with friends, every day is an opportunity to be part of the Newbery experience.
Being at school and on time each day makes a difference. Regular attendance helps students build strong routines, stay connected to their classmates and teachers, and make the most of their learning. If your child will be absent, please remember to notify the office.
Sleep Helps Students Succeed
A good night’s sleep helps children come to school ready to learn, participate, and manage the ups and downs of the school day. Establishing a consistent bedtime routine can make a big difference. For elementary aged children, 9 to 12 hours of sleep each night is recommended.
Book Character Day – Tuesday, October 27
We are excited to celebrate reading with our annual Book Character Day! Students are invited to dress as a favorite character from a book. Please remember that costumes should be school appropriate. No masks, weapons, or scary themes. We want to keep the focus on books, creativity, and fun!
Parent Teacher Conferences – October 28–30
We look forward to connecting with families during conferences at the end of the month. Conferences are an important opportunity to talk about your child’s progress, celebrate their growth, and work together on goals for the year. Conference information will be sent home on October 14, so please watch for it in your child’s backpack.
Thank you for being such an important part of the John Newbery community. We are proud of the relationships we have with our families and appreciate all you do to support our students.
Go Jaguars!
